SunQuest

  • Sun in Chosica
Just arrived, and squinting furiously in the bright sunlight!
  • Rental Bikes
We rented bikes that were only marginally bigger than the ones you see here. Ouch my legs.
  • Fancy Fountain
    Fancy Fountain in the square.
  • Ice Creams
We check one of Christina's boxes, icecream in the sun!
  • Ground Cherries
Christina calls them 'ground cherries'. Yum.

So Christina had finally had enough of Lima last weekend, and demanded that we go on an adventure over the long weekend. Specifically she demanded that we jump on a bus and go on a search for actual sunlight, instead of the grey days we get hanging out in Lima in winter.

So we settled on a 2 hour trip to a place called Chosica (pronounced cho see’ ka) which is just far enough up into the mountains to leave the winter clouds behind. We had a solid two days of proper sunshine and wandering around the various festivities and food stalls the locals had set up to celebrate Fiestas Patrias, their national day. We did see fried guinea pig, but it didn’t look appetizing enough (this time) for us to give it a try, but we’ll keep our eyes open 🙂

Lovely to see you both – and the sunshine looks amazing for winter! A bit like San Fran in that you have to ‘get out of town’ in July and August, to find the sun.

You’ll eat guinea pig sooner or later! It’s a bit like Chicken! You probably won’t know, but it is a delicacy,& if you look in Cusco Cathedral ,it is served at the feast of The Last Supper ( in an oil painting) Thinking of you both! Lots of love M & R xx

Hi there Mary (and Rodney!), We haven’t yet tried the guinea pig. The only time we’ve seen it on offer was during the national day celebrations and it was an entire guinea pig that had been deep fried on a stick. It looked more like roadkill than dinner that time, but we are keeping a sharp eye out for a more appetizing version. We’ll be sure to check out the cathedral painting (and hopefully get a picture) once we get to Cusco. Great to hear from you 🙂
