Ancient traditions
We went to a northern coastal town called Huanchaco that is famous for its reed boats. They have a unique design that has been passed down through this ancient fishing village and these boats are still being made to this day.
They are made of reeds bundled together and have to be stood up on the beach to dry out between outings. They look like half kayaks with one curvy end.
Wandering around between the boats I was tempted to have a peek at how they are made. And I found a little surprise.
Looks like styrofoam is a key element in this unique traditional handcrafted vessel.
Would like a pic showing how people sit on them (in them?).
